Influenza, Coronavirus, and Other Communicable Diseases

For the safety of our communities, as of March 16, all schools and other facilities are closed to the public (including playgrounds). For details on virtual schooling and other services, click at right.

For the most up to date information and to submit questions on coronavirus COVID-19 in our state, click Note that school closings can only be initiated by local or state health officials or the Department of Education.

Here are the most common recommendations for preventing the spread of viruses:

  • Wash hands often, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your sleeve, not your hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Keep your children home when they are sick. Children should not return to school unless they have been fever-free without medication for 24 hours
  • Avoid people who are sick
  • Get a flu shot 鈥 it's not too late to be protected
  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces and objects
  • Encourage a 鈥渄o not share鈥 rule this season: food, drink, lip balm, pencils, etc.

Our custodial staff have enhanced daily cleaning and sanitizing at all of our schools using the Virex disinfectant at high touch surfaces in each building and on school buses every day. While handwashing with soap and water is always preferred to the use of sanitizers, students are being reminded to use school-provided sanitizers when hand washing is not available.

We continue to monitor information from the CDC about cases of the coronavirus within the United States and are following current guidance provided by the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Department of Health. More information from these and other sources are linked at right.

The Department of Health recommends that all families with a child who has traveled to an area of the world highly impacted by the coronavirus within the past two weeks to please contact their child's principal and/or school nurse prior to sending their child back to school. The Toms River Regional district and school nurses will work with these families to determine the appropriate timeline for re-entry to school.

As recommended by the CDC, we are preparing for the possibility that a spread of the virus in the U.S. may impact school attendance and/or require us to close schools. If directed by local health officials to close schools for an extended period of time, the "virtual school day" plan for the continuation of instruction for our students linked at right will take effect.

Please do not hesitate to call your child鈥檚 school nurse with any questions. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and staff safe and healthy!

Gripe y Otros Viruses

Gripe, Coronavirus y Otras Enfermedades Transmisibles

Adem谩s, estamos siguiendo las recomendaciones del Departamento de Educaci贸n de New Jersey y del Departamento de Salud de New Jersey.
